After a long Texas summer, October is the month San Antonio has been waiting for. The mornings are cooler, the evenings are comfortable, and the city's calendar fills up with some of the best events of the year. Whether you already live at Four Thousand Horizon Hill or you're thinking about making a move this fall, here's how to make the most of the season, both at home and around town.
Start at Home: Make the Most of Your Outdoor Space
Fall is the best time of year to use the outdoor space that comes with your apartment. Every home at Four Thousand Horizon Hill has a private patio or balcony. Now that the afternoon heat is easing, it's a great spot for your morning coffee, an evening with a book, or a few potted mums and a string of warm lights.
If you're hosting, take the gathering to one of our outdoor kitchens with pergolas. A fall cookout with friends, a game-day spread, or a Friendsgiving warm-up all work well there. And on the cooler nights later in the season, residents in select homes with a fireplace get a cozy bonus. Explore our floor plans to see which layouts include one.
Fall Walks for You and Your Pup
Cooler temperatures mean longer walks, and your four-legged roommate will thank you. Our community features pet-friendly walking trails and pet stations right on site, and we welcome up to three pets per home. You can find the full pet policy here.
If you want a change of scenery, Denman Estate Park is just around the corner. It's a peaceful spot for an afternoon stroll once the leaves start to turn.
Celebrate Día de los Muertos, San Antonio Style
Few cities celebrate Día de los Muertos like San Antonio does, and October is when the festivities really take off. The city's "Spirit Season" begins Oct. 2 and continues through Día de los Muertos on Nov. 2, with events along the River Walk, at La Villita, and at the Pearl. visitsanantonio
Here are a few highlights to put on your calendar:
Día de los Muertos River Parade (Friday, October 23). Now in its eighth year, the parade returns to the River Walk. Tickets sell quickly, so plan ahead with Visit San Antonio. visitsanantonio
Muertos Fest at Hemisfair (October 23–25). The free festival takes over Hemisfair with more than 80 altars, five stages of music and performances, two processions, workshops, food, and over 75 art vendors at the Muertos Mercado. Friday night's opening event includes sensory-friendly hours from 5 to 7 p.m., which is great for families. Details are at muertosfest.com. tprtpr
Celebrando las Misiones (Saturday, October 24). This free community event at Mission Marquee Plaza runs from 3 to 10 p.m. and includes a blessing and procession, live music, a remembrance slideshow, and a film screening on the original 1948 Mission Drive-In screen. tpr
Culinary Spirits (all October). This new event brings Día de los Muertos into participating restaurants throughout the month, so it's a fun excuse to try somewhere new for date night. visitsanantonio
Get Your Halloween Thrills Close to Home
Our location near I-10 and Loop 410 makes it an easy drive to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Fright Fest runs on select dates through Nov. 1, and 2026 marks the park's 30th Fright Fest, featuring a new Conjuring Universe maze and the return of SAW: Legacy of Terror. One heads-up for parents: the after-dark event isn't recommended for children under 13. However, families can enjoy Tricks and Treats and Oktoberfest during the day.
